Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 large egg yolks
- 2 tablespoons sour cream
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 pinch of salt
- 2–4 tablespoons milk, as needed
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the egg yolks, sour cream, melted butter, vanilla extract, and lemon juice. Mix until a soft dough forms, adding a little milk if necessary.
Step 2: Knead and Rest
Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth. Cover and let it rest for 20–30 minutes.
Step 3: Roll and Shape
Roll the dough out very thinly on a lightly floured surface. Cut it into strips or rectangles. Make a small slit in the center of each piece and pull one end through the slit to create a twisted shape.
Step 4: Heat the Oil
Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to approximately 170–175°C (340–350°F).
Step 5: Fry the Pastries
Carefully fry the pastries in small batches for about 1–2 minutes per side, or until golden and crisp. Avoid overcrowding the pan.
Step 6: Drain and Decorate
Transfer the pastries to a plate lined with paper towels. Allow them to cool slightly, then generously dust with powdered sugar.
